Harvey Leighton, age 82, of rural Hanover, Illinois, passed away at his home. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Hanover United Methodist Church with a Military Flag Presentation. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm before the service at the Church. A luncheon will follow the service at the VFW Club. Harvey was born August 2, 1941, in Stoughton, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Norma (Enke) Leighton. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1959. Harvey served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1963-1965. And then on December 24, 1974, Harvey married Lynn Cornish. They celebrated 42 years of marriage until Lynn’s death.
Harvey worked at the Savanna Army Depot for many years as an equipment operator, retiring in 1999 after 33 years of service. He was a 50+ year member of the Savanna American Legion. Harvey enjoyed time spent outside, you could usually find him hunting, fishing, or gardening.
Harvey will be dearly missed by his 12 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews; three sisters, Doris Haggerty of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Phyllis (Steve) Schneider of Daphne, Alabama, and Rosemary Haring of Hanover. Harvey is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn; both parents; three brothers-in-law, Tom Haring, Harold Haggerty and Roger Dillow.
