Harvey Kennedy

Harvey Lee Kennedy, age 72, loved story-telling with friends and family and lived his entire life on the Kennedy Century Farm which was established in 1913. Harvey passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. A memorial fund has been established in Harvey’s memory.
Harvey was born February 10, 1942 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Alland and Florence (Bingham) Kennedy. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School and Hanover High School. Harvey farmed all of his life growing crops and raising Black Angus cattle. He also worked for Atwoods in Stockton, Illinois, and later became a carpenter and worked for Reifsteck Construction, Yardley Construction and for himself. On October 15, 1961, Harvey married the love of his life Judy A. Sevey at the Lutheran Church in Hanover. They celebrated fifty-three years together. They just took a day trip to Judy’s hometown in Iowa for their anniversary, where they enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and weather.
Harvey was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover and the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting for morels, fishing for salmon when he took trips to Wisconsin, his many farm dogs he had over the years, hosting trail rides for the past twenty-eight years on the Kennedy Farm and attending antique tractor shows. Harvey enjoyed roasting hogs for family and friends.
Harvey will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-three years, Judy; a son, Darrold (Debra) Kennedy of Gifford, Illinois; two grandchildren, Megan (Richard) Allendorf and Kristen Kennedy; three great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Evelyn and Dalton. Harvey is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chris Edward and a daughter, Mona Lyn.
