Harris William Thiede

Harris William Thiede, age 74, of Preston, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at his home, with his family by his side. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa, with Pastor Karl Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery, Preston, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa.

Harris was born August 1, 1931, the son of Roy Herman and Pearl (Jackson) Thiede in Preston, Iowa. He was a graduate of Preston High School. Harris married Gwendolyn Miller on December 1, 1957 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston.

Harris spent his life farming grain and raising livestock. He lived and worked on his family home-place, which has been recognized as a Century Farm by the State of Iowa. For over forty years Harris enjoyed playing Pinochle with his Card Club friends. Most of all Harris loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He and his grandsons had lots of fun four-wheeling together. Harris also had a fondness for horses.
Harris will be deeply missed by his wife, Gwendolyn; his three daughters, Victoria (David) Thiede-Knipper of Marion, Iowa, Audrey (Erich) Spangenberg of Rancho Mirage, California and Barbara (David) Michel of Preston; four grandsons, Andrew Knipper, Christian Spangenberg, Brandon Michel and Keaton Michel; Harris is preceded in death by his parents.
