Harriet Marie Smith, age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Freeport Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, Pastor Rick Zickefoose from the Church of God will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674 or to the Mt. Carroll Senior Center in Harriet’s memory.

Harriet was born August 19, 1926, in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of George and Anna (Covell) Russell. She married Robert L. Smith December 6, 1946, in Moline, Illinois. In addition to helping on the family farm she worked at General Electric in Morrison, Illinois, Elkay in Lanark, Illinois, and Atwoods in Mt. Carroll until retiring in 1988.

Harriet enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, and crocheting. But most of all she loved the time she spent with her family.

Harriet is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert L. Smith; two sons, Richard (Mary) Smith of Shannon, Illinois, Robert B. Smith of Mt. Carroll; three daughters, Beverly (Jim) Wickland of Rockford, Illinois, Barbara (Gerald) Schubert of New Boston, Illinois, Sharon (Tim) Spahr of Galesville, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; a step-grandson; sixteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Leon (Emma Jean) Russell of Cordova, Illinois, Larry (Linda) Russell of Fulton, Illinois.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents; one brother Sherman; and a great grandchild.
