Harold G. Schimanski had one goal everyday, and that goal was to make at least one person smile. At the age of 88, he entered into heaven at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois, on Sunday, January 4, 2015. A prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the prayer service.
Harold was born on June 1, 1926, the son of Frank and Cecelia (Winski) Schimanski in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Lane Tech High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. Following high school, Harold enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and honorably served his country. He was a master machinist tool and dye maker for many small businesses. On May 15, 1948, Harold married the love of his life Betty Leeks in Chicago.
Harold enjoyed dancing, roller skating, fishing in Canada, Lake Michigan, and Apple Canyon. He also was an avid golfer and skier and had the nickname “Smoke” for skiing so fast down the slopes. Harold coached golf for the Scales Mound Golf team for a couple of years. Most of all, Harold treasured the life he had with Betty.Harold will be dearly missed by his wife Betty of Apple River, Illinois; godson, Ken (Linda) Mulholland of Hanover; sister in-law, Cookie Alveres of Ava, Missouri, and a niece, Raqual (Bill) Lewis of Missouri. Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
