Harold Manders

January 23, 1937 — March 4, 2016

Harold M. Manders, age 79, of Mt. Carroll, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Theresa’s Home Care in Libertyville, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll with military rites accorded by the Mt. Carroll American Legion Post #67. Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Mt. Carroll.
Harold was born January 23, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Christina (Herbst) Manders. Harold honorably served his country in the United States Army as a firefighter. He worked for Danly Machine in Chicago, Illinois, as a torch cutter for 36 years. He later worked for Scott Forge for 2 ½ years and cut the largest piece of steel in the company’s 60 year history. Harold married the love of his life Diane LeBeau on May 5, 1973. Diane passed away August 18, 2010.
Harold was a self-proclaimed fishing expert, and always enjoyed playing cards and even managed to get a perfect hand in cribbage that was verified by his son. He loved being around people and spent much of his time at Charlie’s II in Mt. Carroll listening to the music and making new friends. Most notably, Harold was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Harold will be dearly missed by his children, Denise (Ray) LaForte of Carol Stream, Illinois, Dawn Liss of Lebanon, Missouri, Allan (JoAnn) Manders of Lake Villa, Illinois; step-daughter, Donna Schneider of Johnsburg, Illinois; six grandchildren, Daniel, Jocelyn, Tyler, Trevor, Nathen and Cassandra; a great-grandson, Jayden; three brothers, Delbert Manders of Dubuque, Vincent Manders of Dubuque, George Manders of Cyril, Oklahoma; five sisters, Arlene Kohn of Roscoe, Illinois, Luella (Paul) Lueken of Garber, Iowa, Darlene Klosterman of Earlville, Iowa, Mary Jane Burcham of Earlville, Margie (Pat) Steger of New Vienna, Iowa. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers, Norman, Lester, Laverne, Sylvester, Jerome Manders and a sister, Shirley Theisen.
