Harold B. Hartman, age 96, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday July 4, 2007 in Mt. Carroll. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God with Pastor Dennis Jarrard of the Laurel St. Church Of God, Freeport, Illinois and Pastor Rick Zickefoose of Mt. Carroll Church of God officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Memorials may be made in Harold’s honor to the Mt. Carroll Church of God and Mt. Carroll Church of God Missions.
Harold was born on June 12, 1911, the son of Fred C. and Mary J.J. (Mohrman) Hartman in Fairhaven Township, rural Chadwick, Illinois. Harold attended Hartman Country School in Fairhaven Township. On August 19, 1932, Harold married Zella E. Altensey in Mt. Carroll. Zella passed away on January 9, 1998 in Mt. Carroll.
As a young man Harold worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department helping to build Route 78. He hauled canned milk for 15 years and then began farming with his wife, Zella in1949. Harold farmed the rest of his life. He was a member of Mt. Carroll Church of God; the Carroll County Farm Bureau and volunteered for the Carroll County Council on Aging. Harold very much loved and enjoyed his family, especially the grand children and great grandchildren. He enjoyed going out to eat with family, and he always liked to do a little fishing.
Harold will be dearly missed by his son, Lloyd (Colleen) Hartman of Tucson, Arizona; three daughters, Betty (Ralph) Geesey, Mary (John) Boelkens and Elizabeth Hartman all of Mt. Carroll; one brother, Warner C. Hartman; nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; and a niece, Hazel (Leroy) Getz of Savanna.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Zella; a son-in-law, Leo Frederick and nephew, Lowell Hartman.
