Harold William "Bill" Young

Harold William “Bill” Young, age 73, of Hanover, Illinois, died on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community, Galena, Illinois. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Catholic Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth. Cremation rites will be accorded following the mass. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the mass at the church. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. Bill was born on March 1, 1945, the son of Walter and Ann (Artman) Young in Freeport, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Elizabeth High School. After graduation, Bill attended Culinary School. In his younger years, Bill enjoyed racing and working on cars. He loved to cook and cooked for several restaurants in the area. Bill enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre. Bill cherished the time he spent at Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community, especially with his close friend, Nick Weis. Most of all, Bill treasured spending time with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by five children, Jennifer Buchanan of Hanover, Shane (Fildelfa) Young of Galena, Illinois, and Robert, Richard and Cole Young; five grandchildren, Taylor (Chuck Knauer) Buchanan, Marshall Buchanan, Gabriell Bourrette, Dominick DeFlippo, and Aydyn Young; one great grandson, Colbie Knauer; one brother, Tom (Dorothy) Young of Scales Mound, Illinois; one sister, Mary (Mike) Kruger of Apple River, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Erica Young; one sister, Joann Bonjour; one brother, Jim Young; and one sister in-law, Jill Young.
