Harlan J. Rath, age 66, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Eagle Point Nursing Facility in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll, Illinois with Reverend David Vidler officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Savanna, Illinois. Harlan was born on June 29, 1940, the son of John H. and Clara R. (Randecker) Rath in Freeport, Illinois. Harlan farmed in the Savanna area and also worked as a Feed Salesman for many years. He was the owner of the Palisades Motel and the Palisades Trading Post for over 30 years. Harlan enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and loved to spend time with his family.
Harlan is survived by two sons, David (Mary Kay) Rath of Savanna, Illinois and John (Mandi Stokley) Rath of Savanna, Illinois; two daughters, Patty Rath of Omaha, Nebraska and Beverly (Stewart) Haas of Elizabeth, Illinois; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Harlan is preceded in death by his parents.
