Guy H. Asay, age 86, of Mt. Carroll died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at FHN Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chadwick, Illinois with Reverend Chris Schoon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established in Guy’s memory.
Guy was born February 21, 1925 at the family’s home in Salem Township, rural Mt. Carroll, the son of J.G. and Geneva S. (Borreson) Asay. He attended Arnold’s Grove Country School and is a graduate of the Chadwick High School with the Class of 1943. On February 10, 1948 Guy married Bernice Hartman. They farmed together and had two children, Marilyn and Dennis. Bernice died January 19, 1979. Guy later married Gwendolynn (Hanna) Burkholder on January 4, 1980. Guy moved to Lanark and continued to farm. Gwendolynn died February 9, 2010.
Guy farmed all of his life. He loved feeding cattle. Guy enjoyed seeing friends and talking, he could start up a conversation with anyone. He liked playing cards, Pitch mostly, and dancing. He was always part of the Four Cs Club (Carroll County Country Couples) and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chadwick.
Guy will be dearly missed by his son, Dennis (Gloria) Asay of Mt. Carroll; a son in-law, Bill (Linda) Gempeler of Shannon, Illinois; four grandchildren, Renee (Jeff) Voltz, Brian (Amanda) Gempeler, Brent (Jenny) Asay and Laura (Matt) Kerkhoff; seven great grandchildren, Alexis, Payton and Olivia Voltz, Preston and Avery Gempeler, and Kendal and Aiden Asay; a sister JoAnn Weber of Lanark; a step-son, Scott Burkholder of Lanark; two step-daughters, Debra (Kevin) Miller of Lanark and Lori (Raymond) Warner of Huntsville, Alabama; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. Guy is preceded in death by both wives; his daughter, Marilyn in 2006; a sister Arlene Derrer; and both parents.
