Gunnel Maria Lundquist, age 96, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Center, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church with Reverend Teri Lafferty officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given in Gunnel's honor for the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church or the Timber Lake Playhouse, Mt. Carroll.
Gunnel was born October 27, 1916, the daughter of Vidar and Frida (Eriksson) Grinndal in Winnipeg, Canada. She attended Vanderpool School in Chicago. Gunnel married Derwood Lundquist on August 7, 1943 in Chicago. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. Derwood died February 9, 2008.
Gunnel was a homemaker, dressmaker and interior designer. She was known for her creativity. With her husband, Derwood she owned and operated an interior design business known as the Carroll House in Mt. Carroll. She was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Good Samaritan Auxiliary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, games, flower gardening and sewing.
Gunnel will be dearly missed by her four sons, Paul Lundquist (Dotty Morgan) of Burnsville, North Carolina, Thomas (LeeAnne) Lundquist of Onalaska, Texas, John (Beverly) Lundquist of Mt. Carroll, and Matthew (Jane) Lundquist of Mt. Carroll; four grandchildren, Christopher, Malissa, James, and Elissa; and a great grandson, Gabriel. Gunnel was preceded in death by her husband, Derwood, and two brothers, Volke and Richard.
