Gregory Allen Mitchell

Gregory Allen Mitchell, age 68, of Clinton, IA, passed away Friday April 28, 2023, with his family by his side. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Thomson, IL from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. We will then join in procession to Lower York Cemetery, for a graveside service.

Greg was born September 29, 1954, in Fulton, IL, the son of Lloyd and Junnita Joyce (Hyde) Carter. He spent his childhood in Fulton, then he and his family moved to Nebraska, where he attended high school. Following graduation, he moved back to Fulton and went to work for PowerLab in Savanna, IL. He retired in 2019. On November 16, 2005, Greg married Rita Gillen.

Greg was an avid Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers fan; much to the dismay of his Bears-fan wife. He loved cheering on his teams and made his way to games as often as he could. In his free time, Greg loved working on his Camaro (he owned a few throughout his life), and relaxing while listening to his favorite band, Pink Floyd. For many decades, he and his buddies would get together to play cards, especially euchre.

Greg will be dearly missed by his wife, Rita; sons, Mike (Christie) Mitchell, of Maquoketa, IA and Chris Mitchell, of Clinton; step-daughter, Tara (Keith Main) DeViney, of Clinton; and grandchildren, Brenen, Tylor, and Amber Mitchell, and Dillenger and Olivya Main. Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Junnita and his sister, Cynthia D. Mitchell, who passed at birth.
