Gregg T. O'Bryant Sr., age 61, of Sabula, IA, passed away Saturday, October 15. A celebration of Gregg's life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Preston, IA.
Gregg was born October 12, 1961, son of John and Patricia (Stoddard) O'Bryant. He spent his early years in Virginia, but his family moved back to the area when Gregg was seven years old. Growing up Gregg attended East Central, Miles, and Sabula schools. In the early 90s Gregg met the love of his life, Lorna Ralston, at a Christmas party in Sabula. Gregg was very persistent, and eventually got a date with Lorna. The rest was history. Gregg and Lorna got married on July 15, 1995. Together, they celebrated 27 years of marriage.
Gregg loved spending time in the outdoors with his family and friends. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi, camping with family at Rock Creek, and mushroom hunting in near by woods. Gregg also had secret spots where he would hunt ginseng. He especially loved spending the day fishing with his kids.
At the center of Gregg's life was his family. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a proud grandpa. Helping his family, with their cars or chopping wood for the stove, was always a chore done in love. Gregg's kind heart lives on in those he loved most.
Gregg will be dearly missed by his wife, Lorna O'Bryant of Sabula; five children, Charity Henak of Clinton, IA, Jeff Henak of Miles, IA, David Earle of Sabula, Jeramiah “JT” Earle of Washington, Cortney Henak of Oxford Junction, IA, and Patrisha O'Bryant of Savanna, IL; 13 grandchildren; his father, John O'Bryant of Clinton; and three siblings, Jill Strickland of Washington, Lori (Jim) Hernandez of Clinton, and Randy (Jodi) O'Bryant of Washington.
Gregg is preceded in death by two sons, Gregg “GJ” Jr., and Jason Henak; and his mother, Patricia.
