Grace E. Zahn

Grace Zahn, age 85, of Lanark, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at home. A graveside service will take place at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll.
Grace was born October 15, 1932, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the daughter of Pearl Gums. She attended Mt. Carroll High School. On June 1, 1963, Grace married Frank Zahn. They celebrated 50 years of marriage until Frank’s passing on January 15, 2013
Grace was a homemaker, who cherished taking care of her family. She also worked as a housekeeper at Shimer College. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grace will be dearly missed by her three sons, David (Diane) Gums of Atwater, Minnesota, Samuel (Teo) Gums of Chadwick, Illinois, and Frank Zahn Jr of Lanark, Illinois; four daughters, Norma McColley, Brenda (Ron) Messenger, and Christine Zahn, all of Lanark, Illinois, and Ida (Steve) Merkel of Chadwick, Illinois; a daughter in-law, Heather Zahn; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; and two brothers, Bud Gums and Ralph Johnson.
