Grace Hummel

Grace L. Hummel, age 95, of Sabula, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Belmont Village, Carol Stream, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Sabula United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sabula United Methodist Church, Sabula Volunteer Fire/EMT Dept. or the Sabula Public Library.
Grace was born on May 9, 1919 in Sabula, the daughter of Fred and Maggie (Flor) Behn. She attended Sabula High School, graduating with the Class of 1936. Grace married Dale Hummel on September 8, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa. Dale died April 22, 1972.
Grace worked as a clerk for the Savanna Army Depot for 31 years. She was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed watching the barges go through the drawbridge and also the trains crossing the bridge, and visiting with her many friends. Grace is survived by one daughter, Gloria Berry; one son Jack (Rita) Hummel; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale; one son-in-law, James Berry; and a brother Fred Behn.
