Grace Sarah Hancock

Grace Sarah Hancock, age 101 of Elizabeth, Illinois died on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Lena Living Center, Lena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth with Reverend Kyungsu Park officiating. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Grace's memory.
Grace was born on August 4, 1913, the daughter of Samuel and Ella (Welch) Nicholls in Galena, Illinois. Grace married Cletus Hancock on December 31, 1930 in Galena, Illinois. Cletus died on March 29, 1985 in Savanna.
Grace and her husband, Cletus, farmed near Elizabeth for many years. Grace also worked for Eaton Manufacturing in Hanover for over ten years. Grace attended the United Methodist Church, Elizabeth, where she enjoyed helping with the annual turkey supper. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.
Grace will be dearly missed by two daughters, Evelyn (William) Hermann of Lena, Illinois and Joan Mayes of Bettendorf, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and two sisters in-law, Ruth Hanson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Bernetta Curtis of Savanna. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus; two brothers, Sam and Tom Nicholls; two sisters, Florence Glasgow and Irene Rosenthal and one son in-law, Perry Mayes.
