Grace M. Burmeister, age 90, of Lanark, Illinois died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Stephenson County Nursing Home, Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Grace was born September 20, 1922, in Lanark, the daughter of Royal and Via (Brill) Knorr. She attended Lanark Schools, and graduated with the class of 1940. Grace married Earl Burmeister on May 12, 1945.
Grace worked as a secretary from 1940-45, then spent several years farming. She was also a professional organist, playing in Supper Clubs throughout Northern Illinois, and played at the Carroll County Fair for 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren, the American Federation of Musicians, as well as the Savanna Moose. She enjoyed teaching her music students at her home.
Grace is survived by her husband, Earl, of Lanark; one daughter, Wendy Rae (Virgil) Swanson of Lanark; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchild and one step great – granddaughter.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marcia in infancy and Sheila Kay Massey; one sister, Cecile Burd; and one brother, John Knorr.
