Gordon V. Brown

Gordon Vaughn Brown, age 84, of Thomson, Illinois, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial with military rites will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Memorials may be given to the Thomson American Legion in Gordon’s memory.

Gordon was born at home on July 1, 1934, the son of Guy and Maude (Curley) Brown in Thomson. He attended Thomson High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. After graduation, Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Donna Hyde on August 17, 1954 in Thomson.

After he was discharged from the Army, Gordon became an offset printer working for three regional companies. Gordon completed his printing career with twenty-five years of service at the Savanna Army Depot as an Offset Press Operator, retiring in 1988. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed woodworking and creating wooden crafts that he sold at the Brown’s Country Nook, located at his home in Thomson. He was a longtime member of the Thomson American Legion. Gordon enjoyed shooting pool and playing slots at the casino. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting waterfowl. Most of all, Gordon cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Donna; five children, Rhonda (Ed) Rousch of Union Hall, Virginia, Gary (Suzanne) Brown of High Point, North Carolina, Vicky (Jim Savory) Meyermann of LeClaire, Iowa, Terry (Marla) Brown of Roanoke, Virginia, and Linda Starr of Thomson; fifteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Arla Miller of Thomson; and one son in-law, Ron Hardt of Clinton, Iowa.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jackie Hardt; one grandson, Joshua Brown; one son in-law, Randy Starr; three brothers, Burrell, Gerald, and Harold Brown; and one sister, Harriett Brown.
