Glynn Ellen Shaw, age 85, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away peacefully with her devoted husband by her side, Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Glynn Ellen’s memory.
Glynn Ellen was born May 16, 1932 in Schapville, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard and Mildred (Mitchell) Stadel. She attended Elizabeth High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. Glynn Ellen continued on with her education receiving her Bachelor Degree in Teaching from the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. Glynn Ellen married the love of her life, Glen Shaw on August 1, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. They celebrated 62 years together. She taught at school in Galena for a few years prior to having her son and daughter. Following the birth of her children, Glynn Ellen went back to teaching and taught 2nd and 6th grade in Elizabeth, after 31 years she retired from River Ridge School.
Glynn Ellen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, in her younger years she was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church in Schapville, Historical Society and the retired teachers. Glynn Ellen was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan and reader and may have been a book hoarder. She enjoyed crocheting, bird watching, helping on the farm, square dancing, playing cards, cooking, baking bread and cinnamon rolls. Glynn Ellen was a teacher at heart and never missed the opportunity to teach her family and friends.
Glynn Ellen will be dearly missed by her husband, Glen; son, Randy Shaw of Elizabeth; daughter, Lynn Kay (Lynn Allen) Pease of Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Jessica (Fiancé Ben Drury) Pease, Michael Pease, Derek Pease, Bill (Katie) Longmore, Sandy (Wesley) Offenheiser; three great-grandchildren, Landis, Jerry Longmore and Owen Offehneiser. Glynn Ellen was preceded in death by her parents.
