Glenn E. “Gene” Teeter, 87, of Mt. Carroll, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, December 17, 2012 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Reverend Teri Lafferty officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with a Masonic Service held at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Gene was born July 25, 1925, in Mt. Carroll, the son of Glenn and Stella Teeter. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School and married his high school sweetheart, Betty L. Smith, in 1948. During high school, Gene, a talented musician, played the saxophone and entertained many with his dance band. Gene joined the Army during WWII and was stationed in Germany serving under General George Patton. He attended Alma College and Northwestern University and subsequently moved to Chicago, where he owned and operated Frontier Heating. In 1967, he and Betty returned to Mt. Carroll where Gene worked at The Mt. Carroll National Bank and, upon retiring as President and Director, embarked on a sales career in specialty advertising with Vernon Company until 2010.
Gene was active in many clubs in the Mt. Carroll area and philanthropically aided many organizations and entities. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts, Timberlake Playhouse, Alma College, Campbell Center, the City of Mt. Carroll, the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Methodist Church, the Mt. Carroll Library, and the Mt. Carroll Rotary Club.
Gene is survived by his nieces and nephews, Fred (Shirley) Teeter of Ransomville, NY, Diane Mallory of Naples, FL, Norman (Mellie) Teeter of Eads, TN, Marcia Roberts of Princeton, IL, and Barbara Brierton of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters-in-law, Marie Teeter of Mt. Carroll, IL, and Gladys Smith of Cambridge, IL. Gene will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and caregivers, Tammy Stretton and Tina Stretton. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents and two brothers, John and Lowell.
