Glenn was born September 18, 1934, the son of George “Rusty” and Emma (Griep) Gravert at home in DeWitt, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Miles High School. On May 29, 1955, Glenn married the love of his life Ada Mae Florence Ann Paetow in Andover, Iowa. Glenn farmed for many years with his wife in rural Miles. He also drove school bus during his farming years. Following his retirement from farming and driving bus, Glenn worked many other jobs including doing carpentry work, driving semi, working the wheat harvest from Colorado to Canada, and finally working part time at Ag Vantage Farm Services in Miles. Even after retiring from farming, he continued to have chores always caring for a variety of farm animals.
Glenn was a member of the Green Island Congregational Church and Ducks Unlimited. Glenn loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed introducing young people to the joy of hunting and fishing and he and Ada taught many hunter safety courses over the years. He also enjoyed taking drives in the country. Glenn loved adventure even if it was just taking a different way home from wherever he was at. He was never able to pass up a garage sale, a flea market, or a good deal on a boat. He was a tinkerer, always purchasing items at auctions or garage sales and then working for hours or sometimes days to get them running or at least trying to.
Glenn will be dearly missed by his wife Ada; daughter, Terri (Joe) Preston of Elgin, Minnesota; two sons, Guy (Michelle) Gravert of Pearl City, Illinois, Mitch (Leana) Gravert of Miles; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria (Richard) Nord of Vergas, Minnesota and a sister in-law, Diane Gravert of Sabula, Iowa. Glenn is preceded in death by his father, Rusty; mother, Emma Gravert-Miller; step-father, Albert Miller; brother, Gene; and a son, George.
