Glenn Bonjour, age 89, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, August 14, 2010. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, with Reverend Larry Thomson officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Savanna V.F.W. Post # 2223. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 4 to 7:00 p.m. also at the church. Memorial’s may be directed to the Savanna First United Methodist Church.

Glenn was born August 8, 1921 near Stockton, Illinois, in Morseville, the son of Paul and Elsie (Krell) Bonjour. He attended Mount Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. Glenn honorably served his country during World War II in the 509th Bomb Group. He was part of the team which assembled the nuclear bombs ending World War II. Glenn was awarded the “Valor” V-Device Medal in 1999 by President Bush. He married Jean R. Scherman on October 27, 1946 in Savanna, Illinois.

Glenn was an employee of the Savanna Army Depot for thirty-three years, his last job was as a production controller. He was a life member of N.A.R.F.E., Savanna V.F.W. Post # 2223 and American Legion Post VanBibber-Hansen # 148. Glenn was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as trustee chairman and on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Church’s Men’s Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Glenn will be dearly missed by his wife, Jean of Savanna; son Randy (Susan) Bonjour of Oxford, Iowa; a daughter in-law, Patricia Bonjour of Savanna; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. Glenn was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bonjour; a sister, Bernita Green; two brothers, Eldin and Merle.
