Glenda (Ashby) Spencer

Glenda Elaine (Ashby) Spencer was positive, charismatic, worked hard and loved her family. At the age of 78, Glenda passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Cedar Crest Health Center, Janesville, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Glenda's memory.
Glenda was born February 21, 1936 in Mt. Carroll, the daughter of James Glen and Mabel Gertrude (Smith) Ashby. She is a Mt. Carroll High School Graduate with the Class of 1954. She attended the Rockford Beauty School. On January 31, 1955, Glenda married Gilbert Lee Spencer. They celebrated 23 years of marriage. Gilbert died in 1979.
Glenda operated Glenda's Beauty Shop in Mt. Carroll for several years and later Kountry Kutters Beauty Shop, Chadwick. She enjoyed all of her clients and loved being in-the-loop. Glenda loved to go out-to-eat, shopping, Christmas-time, and was lucky at playing the slots at the casino.
Glenda will be dearly missed by her son, Martin Spencer and his partner Roger Eychaner of Machesney Park, Illinois; her daughter, Marnay Spencer of Janesville, Wisconsin, a grandson Randy (Michelle) Robinson; two great-grandsons, Gage and Rook; her sister, Norma Strukhoff of Thomson, Illinois; several special friends, including Jean Brightman, Darcie Miller, Barb Noggle and Paula Almanza; and her kitty, Ko-Ko. Glenda is preceded in death by husband; a daughter, Marci in 2006; and a sister, Bette Gillespie.
