Glen Dale Kness, age 89, of Mt. Carroll, previously of Chadwick, passed away November 2, 2022, at Allure Nursing Center, Mt. Carroll. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 2 – 4 pm Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Law Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with a service and Military Rites accorded at 4 pm at the funeral home. Glen was born August 31, 1933, in Chadwick, the son of Daniel and Olive (McCune) Kness. He attended Chadwick Schools and began trucking with Uncle Carly at the age of 17. Glen served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. In October of 1956, Glen married Donna Schriner. They raised 7 children and celebrated 32 years of marriage until Donna’s death in 1988. In May of 1994 Glen married Tonda Fiser and they have celebrated 28 years together.
Glen was an owner-operator, driving truck first for Tonda Kness Trucking and finally retiring after 66 years, completing his career with Premier Transportation. He saw 48 of the 50 states through his trucking and he enjoyed the sites and adventures with Tonda. He would haul anything long, wide, and heavy, often hauling heavy machinery with an escort across country. He received special recognition for trucking over a million miles, The King of the Road belt buckle. He was a member of the American Legion in Chadwick. He enjoyed watching TV news and Christian stations. He enjoyed chatting with his coffee buddies. Glen loved spending time with his family and friends.
Glen will be dearly missed by his wife, Tonda; seven children, Brian (Tina) Kness of Freeport, Glen Lee Kness of Dubuque, Glenda (Larry) Lott of Lena, Kathi (Mike) Bonzick of Shannon, Kelly Plock of Lanark, Christopher Kness of Mt. Carroll, and Patrick (Jessica) Kness of Mt. Carroll; two step-children, Thomas (Vanessa) Biasi of Silvis and Melissa Dauphin of Lanark; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Glen is preceded in death by his first wife Donna; his son, Leo Kness; daughter, Rhoda Kness; four brothers and five sisters.
