Gladys Mae Voss, age 96, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois. A Funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna with Reverend Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Friends may call from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the Community United Church of Christ, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Community United Church of Christ Organ Fund.
Gladys was born October 18, 1909, Savanna Township, the daughter of Frank E. and Lydia Mae (Leavens) Brown. She attended the Timbuktu Country School and graduated from Savanna High School. Gladys married Herbert Almquist in 1927, Herbert passed away in 1950. Gladys married Earl Voss in 1954, Earl passed away in 1991.
Gladys worked as a Bookkeeper for Savanna Hospital, Carroll County Courthouse and Eaton Corporation.
Gladys loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Community United Church of Christ, the Lend a Hand Unit at the Community United Church of Christ, Eastern Star, Watanye Club, and Women of the Moose. Gladys also enjoyed playing bridge with many groups.
Gladys will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lydia (Tom) Root of Savanna; eight grandchildren; Joel, Jim, John and Jeff Root, Larry Almquist, Linda Edwards, Lori Miller and Scott Almquist; three step grandchildren, Richard, Scott and Jody Eads; one brother Kyle (Ruth) Brown of Savanna.
Gladys was preceded in death by two husbands; one son Lawrence Allan Almqusit, three brothers, a sister and a stepdaughter.
