Gladys Cini had a simple, but strong faith in God’s guidance. If you knew her, you saw it in her relationships, her involvement in her community, and even in her work. At the age of 95, Gladys passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL, surrounded by those she loved.
Gladys was born July 3, 1927, in Big Bay, Michigan, the daughter of Norman and Alice (Heppe) Thomson. On April 12, 1947, Gladys married Amedeo “Al” Cini. They celebrated 42 years of marriage until Amedeo’s passing in 1989. She was a member of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church.
She worked for 12 years as a receptionist at the Savanna City Hospital and was also a receptionist for 8 years at the Village Office in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Gladys was always happiest serving in a supportive role, whether that role was as a wife and mother to her family or in her church. For many years, she loved helping families during their most difficult times through the Law Jones Funeral Home as a greeter at visitations.
Gladys will be dearly missed by her daughter, Deborah Cini of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Michael (Ann) Cini of Castle Rock, Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Cini of Starkville, Mississippi; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents Norman and Alice; husband Amedeo; two sons, Norman and Bobby; one brother, and two sisters.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna with a visitation prior to the mass at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the next day, 10 am Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, MI.
