Gervace W. Law, age 90, of Mt. Carroll passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in memory to Carroll County Relay For Life and the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gervace was born on a farm July 18, 1920 in Woodland Township, the son of Wilbert H. and Della (Spencer) Law. He attended the Oakton Country School, the Savanna High School, and is a 1939 graduate of the Milledgeville High School. After high school, Gervace worked in construction and at the Savanna Army Depot. He then served in the US Army during WWII, participating in the Battle of Okinawa.
Gervace devoted his life to agriculture, he was a good steward of land. He loved farming and family get-togethers. Gervace was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll, the Savanna VFW, American Legion and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Gervace will be dearly missed by two brothers, Lyle (Lois) Law of Mt. Carroll and Duane Law of Lake Carroll; one nephew, Brad (Sharon) Law; and five nieces, Sharon (Lee) Larsen, Donna (Dave) Beilema, Diane (Kevin) Powers, Carol (Steve) Nordstrom and Teresa Wilkinson.
