Geraldine "Geri" Shanafelt

Geraldine “Geri” Shanafelt age 79, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at home with her loving family by her side. A private family service will be held. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Genesis Hospice in Geri’s memory.

Geri was born April 8, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Clifford and Lucille (Taylor) Frank. She graduated from Morton High School in Berwyn, Illinois. Geri married the love of her life Terry L. Shanafelt on September 1, 1968 in Elgin, Illinois. They celebrated 49 years together.

Geri was a homemaker; her family meant the world to her. She was very proud to hold four titles, Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. Geri was a member of the Eckankar Church, ordained clergy, Women’s Order of the Moose, Hospice and CASA Volunteer. When Geri’s health allowed, she enjoyed camping and traveling. Most of all, Geri cherished the time she spent with her family.

Geri is survived by her loving husband; three daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Price of Savanna, Illinois, Casey (George) Cockerham of Savanna, Cathy Shanafelt of Clinton, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barb (Don) Folden of Rockford, Illinois, Nancy Frank of Peru, Illinois and a brother, Russell (Marge) Frank of McHenry, Illinois. Geri was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruthie.
