Geraldine Lambert

Geraldine Lambert was a world traveler and an excellent storyteller. Geraldine died at the age of 92 on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at her home in Spragueville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville. Burial will take place in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Spragueville, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Memorials may be given to the Salem Lutheran Church in Geraldine’s memory.
Geraldine was born in the family’s log home on November 11, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Buschmann) Bahr in Spragueville. She attended school in Spragueville and later graduated from Preston High School. After graduation, Geraldine earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Dubuque and her Master’s Degree in Reading from the University of Iowa. Geraldine married Fred Lambert on June 14, 1970 at the Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville. Fred died on October 22, 1974.
Geraldine taught elementary education for over forty-nine years, before retiring. She began teaching in a one room school in Ashkum, Illinois, where she taught for four years before teaching at the North Bend School, and later the Delmar School. Geraldine then taught for thirty-five years at Monroe Elementary School in Davenport, Iowa. She was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she was active in the W.E.L.C.A. and served as a past Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Iowa State Education Association and the American Childhood Education International, where she held both state and local offices. Geraldine also served with Daughters of the American Revolution and was past President of the Maquoketa Senior Club. Geraldine loved travelling and visited every continent in the world, except Antarctica. Geraldine also enjoyed bowling and volunteering her time at nursing homes.
Geraldine is survived by her nephew, Earl Kemp of Spragueville; one niece, Shirley (Mike) Frett of Cape Coral, Florida; and one great nephew, Daniel Frett. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and two sisters, Maribel Kemp and Geneva Bahr.
