Geraldine Marilla Holcomb

Geraldine Marilla Holcomb, age 83, of Savanna, Illinois, died December 6, 2015, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Cremation rites will follow with burial in Savanna Township Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established in Geraldine’s memory.
Geraldine was born on March 18, 1932, the daughter of Donald “Doc” and Myrtle (Breen) McGinnis in rural Savanna, Illinois. She attended St. John Catholic School in Savanna until 8th grade and then attended Savanna High School, graduating with the Class of 1950. She married Herbert “Mick” Holcomb on March 19, 1951 in Freeport, Illinois. Mick died on March 29, 1973. She was engaged to Levere “Bud” Kane for several years before he died on March 10, 1993.
Geraldine was a homemaker, who cherished taking care of her family. She later worked for Cannavan’s Pub in Savanna and then the Eaton Corporation in Hanover, Illinois, until retiring in 2007 at the age of 75. She was an avid fan of Days of Our Lives and hardly missed an episode. She enjoyed gambling on the riverboats and going to garage sales. She also treasured her community and spent many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Most of all, Geraldine cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Geraldine will be remembered with love and gratitude by her two children, Roxanne Holcomb of Denver, Colorado; and Daniel (Carmen) Holcomb of Galena, Illinois; three grandsons, Patrick, Owen, and Luke Holcomb of Galena; and two step-sons, Marlo Kane of Elizabeth, Illinois, and Terry Kane of Savanna, Illinois; eight step-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mick; one son, Jeffrey Holcomb; two infant sons, Kevin Allen Holcomb and Donald Herbert Holcomb; and two step-daughters, Deb Green and Sheryl Snyder.
