Geraldine M. “Gerry” Keel, 82, of Miles, Iowa, died Monday, September 4, 2006, at the Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa, with Father Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the St. Irenaeus Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. A general memorial fund has been established in Gerry’s memory.
Gerry was born on July 12, 1924, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Barnoski) Losey. She graduated from high school in Worthington, Iowa, and later attended Mt. St. Clare College. Gerry married Wayne D. Keel on June 14, 1948 in Clinton, Iowa.
Gerry worked in the personnel office at the Savanna Army Depot for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1984. Gerry was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. She was also a member of American Legion Auxillary in Miles and was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Her hobbies included completing crossword puzzles, playing cards and playing games like Yahtzee. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and reading. Gerry was a wonderful mother who loved spending time with her family.
Gerry will be dearly missed by her husband, Wayne Keel of Miles, Iowa; two sons, Thomas (Connie) Keel of Coralville, Iowa, and James Keel of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one daughter, Anne (James) Jochum of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother, Maurice Losey of Clinton, Iowa; two sisters, Katherine “Mary” Kirsch of Dyersville, Iowa, and Sister Joan Losey of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John “Jack” Losey; and one sister, Jane Spoden.
