Geraldine L. “Jerry” Buckholz was a kind and generous mother, grandmother, and friend. She died Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Galena-Stauss Nursing Home in Galena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, IL. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the funeral home. A scripture wake service will be held at 4:30 prior to the visitation. A memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s memory.
Jerry was born on October 17, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to Terrence Sr. and Helen (Mulder) O’Connor. She attended and graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago, Illinois. On February 1, 1947, she married Paul A. Buckholz Jr. in Chicago. Paul died on May 5, 1987 in Hanover.
Jerry was a homemaker who cherished staying at home and taking care of her family. She later worked as an office manager for Kloempken, Carter and Cole doctor’s office in Arlington Heights, IL, retiring in 1983. Geraldine and her husband, Paul, built their retirement home in Hanover in 1984. She enjoyed being a “Study Buddy” at River Ridge Schools and volunteering at community blood drives. She loved reading, knitting, sewing, and baking her signature chocolate cake.
Jerry is survived by two children, Jim (Vicky Hastings) Buckholz of Hanover, IL, and Kirk (Patty) Buckholz of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Sharon (Doug) Killian of Lake Moor, IL, Paul (Adena) Buckholz of Burlington, IL, Tim (Jenny) Buckholz of Lee’s Summit, MO, Laura (Nathan) Buckholz-Cockrell of DelNorte, CO, and Sam (Kristin) Buckholz of Dunlap, IL; six great-grandchildren, Sandra, Aiden, Riley, Gabby, Evan, and Liam; one brother, Terry (Jean) O’Connor of Arlington Heights, IL; and three nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; both parents; and a daughter, Meredyth Colberg.
