Gerald "Jerry" Smith

Gerald “Jerry” Smith, age 83, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021.
Jerry was born in Savanna, Illinois on April 27, 1938. As a young man he served his country in the United States Navy where he spent time overseas. He later moved to Bensenville, Illinois and worked on the railroad. Jerry and his first wife had three children, Anthony “Tony”, Debra Sue, and Kathy Lynn. He later moved back to Savanna where he met Laura Irene Partin. They spent the next 30 years together until Irene’s passing on December 10, 2001. Jerry became a father figure to Kathy, Cleta “Cissy”, Bobby and Gary.

Jerry was a fun-loving guy who always had a kind word, a laugh and a smile. Jerry worked as a mechanic and at a service station for many years.

Jerry enjoyed life and its many pleasures. When he got the chance he would take us fishing out to different local lakes and ponds. He was an avid bird watcher, always feeding and watching them. Jerry enjoyed walking in the park or a trail, checking out nature. He also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together with Irene. Jerry did crossword puzzles most days as well.

Jerry will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will be honoring Jerry’s wishes with no visitation or services.
