Gerald “Jerry” L. Law, 71, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois, after a brief illness. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, with visitation an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be given to Jerry’s favorite charities.
Jerry was born on March 28, 1937 in Savanna, the son of Lawrence Sr. and Melvia (Solt) Law. He graduated from Savanna Township High School with the Class of 1955. He was a licensed Independent Insurance Broker with many designations including his C.I.C. (Certified Insurance Counselor). He married Janice Helle in 1957 and they later divorced. She preceded him in death.
Jerry first worked for Flex-Steel in Savanna and later opened his own Independent Insurance Agency in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. After many successful years he sold the business and worked for Clausen Hardware in Clinton, Iowa and S & S Builders in Davenport, Iowa.
Jerry’s biggest enjoyments were hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the last 6 years in Algoma, Wisconsin near the lake and recently moved back to the Quad Cities to spend time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to pull a good prank on his friends anytime he could. He was considered a real jokester.
Jerry is survived by one son, Steve (Cindy) Law of DeWitt, Iowa; two daughters, Debbie (Devin) Heber of Moline, Illinois and Julie (Jim) Draper of Shelby, Michigan; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Jr. (Shirley) Law of Clinton, and Kenneth Law of Seffner, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his special friend, Sheryl Taylor of Kewaunee, Wisconsin.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
