Georgia A. Law passed away Sunday, November 7th, at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11th, at Savanna Township Cemetery in Savanna, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established.
Georgia was born July 18th, 1929, one of 10 children of George and Sarah (Schrack) Shield. She grew up helping on the family farm in Harlem County, Nebraska. Throughout her life, Georgia would rather be outside than cooped up inside. After graduating high school, Georgia moved with her family to Savanna, where her parents ran the Camp Creek farm north of town. In Savanna, Georgia met the love of her life, Matt Law. The couple hit it off, and married on October 7th, 1950. Together they raised four children and celebrated 53 years of marriage until Matt’s passing in 2003.
After marriage, Georgia and Matt moved to Tucson, Arizona for a number of years. They then came back to Carroll County, settled in Lanark, and started running the Satellite Motel. The Law’s eventually ended moving to a home they built in rural Mt. Carroll.
Georgia was first and foremost a wife, a mother, and a loving grandmother. She kept a clean house, and always had food ready for her family. Throughout her life, Georgia was quite stylish. She like shopping for clothes, shoes, and purses. Georgia loved sports, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Later in her life Georgia caught the travel bug. She liked to go anywhere that was warm, and traveled to Hawaii, Key West, Aruba, and many more places. Georgia and Matt enjoyed spending winters at S Padre Island, Texas, to get away from Illinois snow. Georgia was a very smart woman who had her income tax, Realtor, and insurance license. In her spare time Georgia enjoyed reading, and especially loved a good crossword. She took great pride in her grandchildren, and loved being a grandmother.
Georgia will be dearly missed by her four children, Candace (Ted) Peck of New Albin, Iowa, Randy (Sandi) of Savanna, Peg (Gabe) Castro of Savanna, and Lori Law Moshure of Morrison, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, Tim, Samantha, Lizabeth, and Andrew; and six great-grandchildren, Reese, Quinn, Saeed, Rania, Rayanna, and Elijah; and one brother, Gayle Shield of Greeley, Colorado. Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, Matt; her parents, George and Sarah; and nine brothers and sisters.
