...and on the eighth day, God made a farmer.
George Earl Weber, 89, of Chadwick Illinois died Sunday, April 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. George was born the only child to Earl and Grace (Schneider) Weber of Chadwick, Illinois on December 22,1924. He attended Chadwick high school where he played the trumpet, ran track and played basketball. He graduated in 1943. George married Mary Ritchie of Lanark, Illinois in 1947 and was blessed with three children. George and Mary spent their married life farming together on the third generation Weber Family Farm just a mile east of Chadwick. If you listened to the CB radio back then you could hear the "east side farmer" out in the field talking to his "jenny wren" back at the house. George fully believed in the value of hard work, determination, and the joy of knowing Jesus Christ his Savior. He never worked on Sundays. George loved his community and was involved in several organizations. He served on the FS Carroll Service Board for 18 years, several as treasurer, and was also active in the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He was a charter member of the Chadwick Evangelical Free Church and served as a past elder, deacon and trustee. He enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing and ice skating and filled his afternoons in retirement toying with gas engines, learning about WWII air craft and watching car #24 during NASCAR races. George took great pride in his red tractors and rarely missed a season of planting and harvest. His favorite spot was in the drivers seat of the old combine with a granddaughter next to him in the buddy seat. He always enjoyed time with family and friends, going for a Sunday drive, and the 'farmer talk' each afternoon at the coffee shop in Lanark. George waits in heaven for his wife of 66 years and three children, Donald (Debra) Weber of Minooka, Illinois, Christine (Robert) Wiltshire and William (Margo) Weber both of Chadwick. He is also survived by his four granddaughters, Jennifer (Jason Wolff) Weber, Amy (Jacob Chapman) Wiltshire, Heidi (Jason) Hall, and Melody (Christopher Stauffer) Weber, one great-granddaughter Jordan Chapman and one step-great-grandson Trey Hall. He meets in heaven his parents and infant grandson, Bobby Wiltshire.
