George M. Troha, age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Celebrant will be Father Moises Apostol. Burial will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
George was born November 17, 1921 the son of Anton and Anna (Hansen) Troha in Savanna. He attended Savanna High School, graduating Class of 1941. George served in the United States Army during World War II. He attended Moline Business College in Moline Illinois. On June 21, 1952 George married Mary Kelly in Savanna. He worked as an Ammunition Handler at the Savanna Army Depot for thirty-five years.
George loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Another love in his life was baseball, he was very involved with the Savanna Baseball Association during the 1970’s and was an avid Chicago Cubs Baseball fan. George spent many hours planting and raising trees, he was known for his grooming and trimming of trees in the neighborhood.
George is survived by his loving wife, Mary of Savanna; a daughter, Rita (Patrick) Cauley of Savanna, four sons, William Troha of Las Vegas, NV, Paul Troha of Corpus Christie of TX, Mark Troha of San Diego, CA and Phillip (Laura) Troha of Grayslake, IL; seven grandchildren, Kari, Jason, Adam, Ryan, Danielle, Connor and Griffin; one brother, Steven (Marie) Troha of Sequim, Washington; four sisters, Mary Pollock of Mt. Carroll, IL, Francis (Jim) Thomas of Burlington, WI., Barbara (Rush) Ferguson of Sunnyvale, CA., Margaret Parenti of Oxnard, CA.
George is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Catherine Ripley and Anna Pollock.
