George T. Shannon, age 78, of Miles, Iowa passed away on June 20, 2006 at the Alverno Nursing Home, Clinton Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2006 at the United Presbyterian Church, Miles, Iowa. Pastor Bill Warhover will officiate. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa.
George was born on April 28, 1928, in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Earl T. and Clara B. (Lauer) Shannon. He married Barbara J. Gray on March 5, 1953, in Bellevue, Iowa. Barbara passed away on January 22, 1994. George married Elaine P. McCormack on June 21, 1995, in Clinton, Iowa. George graduated from Racine High School, Racine, Wisconsin.
George farmed in Miles, Iowa throughout his entire life. His hobbies included pheasant hunting and trap shooting. He also enjoyed playing card games, especially euchre. George served in the Army during the Korean War.
George is survived by his wife, Elaine; two sons, Curt (Deb) Shannon of Miles, Iowa, Todd (Renee) Shannon of Miles, Iowa; one daughter, Coralie (Jim) Beck of Sabula, Iowa; one sister, Peggy Shafer of Racine, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
George is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara; and one infant son.
