George A. Sandholdt, age 88, of Sabula, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Private family burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa.

George was born on January 19, 1930, the son of Bert and Esther (McElroy) Sandholdt in Sabula, Iowa. He married Gloria Huebner on June 18, 1948 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. In his younger years, George worked at the Savanna Army Depot. He later worked at DuPont in Clinton, Iowa and was transferred with DuPont to Circleville, Ohio. After retiring from DuPont, George moved back to Sabula and drove truck for various companies. George continued to drive truck, until officially retiring at the age of 80. George was a generous man, who loved his family more than life itself. He was a great man, but an awesome Grandpa! When the grandkids would stop and visit, George always had small gifts hidden behind his chair for them. George also enjoyed fishing and cherished spending time with his family and friends.

George will be dearly missed by his wife, Gloria; five children, Brenda (Dennis) Highstrom of Sabula, Sheila (Jim) Rittmer of Sabula, Chuck (Kim) Sandholdt of Sabula, Steve (Deb) Sandholdt of Clinton, and Pam (Jim) Johnson of Sabula; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Curnutt of Maquoketa, Iowa; and his beloved dog, Rufus. George was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Darian Rittmer; three brothers, Bert, Jim, and Doug Sandholdt; and three sisters, Donna Wilson, Joyce Pyle, and Barbara Kay Sandholdt.
