George David Hartman, age 89, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 14 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home.
George was born on February 28, 1927, in Mt. Carroll, the son of George W. and Elsie (Pauley) Hartman. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. George married Patricia Stiefel on March 18, 1950 in Scales Mound, Illinois. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until Patricia’s death in 2003.
George took pride in putting in a hard day’s work. He farmed and was a mechanic at Cobine Implement in Elizabeth, Illinois. He also sold Cen-Pe-Co oil for 20 years until his retirement, and was a member of the Mt. Carroll School Board for 15 years. George was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll. In his younger years, George enjoyed target shooting, farming trees, and traveling out west to Wyoming. Family meant the world to George.
George will be dearly missed by his three sons, Russell (Joan) Hartman and Quinn Hartman, both of Mt. Carroll and Dale (Annette) Hartman of Lanark, Illinois; three daughters, Georgia (Greg) Brinkmeier of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Mary (Brad) Lott of Lanark, and Amy (Joshua) Collins of Manuel, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and his sister, Ruth Atkins.
