George L. Christof, age 74, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Sabula, Iowa with Father Don Plamondon as Celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Burial will take place in St. Johns – St. Josephs Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. George was born May 1, 1933 in Mt. Olive, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Veronica (Kusnir) Christof. He is a graduate of the George Rogers Clark High School, Whiting, Indiana. George served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he served with the Navy Seabees during Vietnam. While in the Military he was a Heavy Equipment Operator and Mechanic. He has the distinction of operating the Military’s largest floating crane. George also served twenty-eight years in the Navy Reserves. He is a member of St. Peters Catholic Church Sabula, and Local 150 Operating Engineers Union, Chicago, Illinois. He enjoyed working on tractors for local farmers.
George will be dearly missed by his brother David (Bernadette) Christof of Sabula, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.
