Geneva M. Haring, age 95, of Elizabeth, Illinois passed away on Friday, November 18, 2005 in the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2005 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover, Illinois. Friends may call from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois. Memorials may be given in Geneva’s memory. Geneva was born October 27, 1910 in Hanover, the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Wells) Kaufman. She attended Hanover Schools. Geneva attended the University of Dubuque and received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin in Platteville. On December 26, 1939 Geneva married Harold F. Haring in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. To this marriage was born a son, Tommy F. Haring on December 21, 1942.
She began her teaching career at various country schools in the Hanover and Elizabeth area. Geneva also taught Math and History in Albany, Port Byron, and Fulton, Illinois schools, retiring in 1980. After she retired, Geneva helped in Hospice, caring for many people in the Savanna area. She also volunteered by teaching people who could not read, write or do arithmetic. Geneva was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hanover, the Presbyterian Women’s Society and the National Educational Association. She lived as she believed, “God, Family and Helping People”. Geneva enjoyed handiwork, gardening, canning and sewing.
Geneva will be dearly missed by her daughter in-law, Rosemary Haring; one granddaughter, Brenda (Charles) Carafano; three grandsons, Jody, Tommy, Jr. and Christopher Haring; three great grandchildren; one sister, Flossie Sullivan of Dubuque, Iowa; one sister in-law Mary Kaufman of Galena, Illinois; and one brother in-law, Austin Stump of Warren, Illinois.
Geneva is preceded in death by her son, Tommy Haring, two brothers, Oral and Leslie Kaufman; and one sister, Margaret Stump.
