Geneva Wand Altfillisch Lantau, 92, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022. A memorial mass will be held April 1, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Elizabeth, with inurnment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Geneva was born to Antone and Veronica (Schaefer) Wand on October 31, 1929, on the family farm in Elizabeth. She married Cleland Altfillisch on November 12, 1949, and they raised four children, Dennis, Kathleen, Duane and Donald. After the passing of Cleland on October 26, 1984, Geneva married Carl Lantau on November 18, 1989.
Geneva lived a full life of laughter, hard work and family. She enjoyed playing cards, watching ‘her stories’, taking walks, farm life, dancing, going to church, and shopping. When asked to describe her, her grandchildren used these words: sassy, devoted, spitfire, fancy, family, beauty, strong, confident, funny, alpha, and unpredictable.
Geneva will be dearly missed by her 3 sons Dennis (Jen) Altfillisch of Morrison, IL, Duane (Karen) Altfillisch of Stockton, IL, Donald (Debra) Altfillisch of Elizabeth, IL, her brother Marvin (Judy) Wand of Galena, IL, her son-in-law Dale McCall of Elizabeth, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter Kathleen, her great grandson Cody, her husbands Cleland and Carl, seven siblings, and her parents.
Thank you to Midwest Senior Care Center in Galena, especially nurse Angie Schleicher, and to Hospice of Dubuque. Friends and family are invited to share in Geneva’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
