The Schurecht family mourns the passing of Geh Schurecht. Ten years ago, with courage, indomitable will and unyielding tenacity, Geh survived the sudden onset of a life threatening infection. Saturday, August 29, 2009, at age 66, he succumbed to it’s complications and pneumonia. Geh was born to Barrington residents, Fred and Grace Schurecht, October 17, 1942. A 1961 Barrington High School Graduate, and longtime Barrington resident, he resided with Terry, his wife on Geh Day Farm in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Long before Geh rode his first pony to his country schoolhouse, Geh loved the country. With a big heart, strong mind, irreverent humor, and the kind and resolute spirit of a country gentleman, he valued the land, farms, ranches, barns, straight talk, good jokes, a hearty laugh, keeping it simple, and with a smile, friends and family.
Together with his wife Terry, his devoted partner for nearly two decades, Geh followed his passion raising animals. An outdoorsman, horseman and cattleman, he bred and tended his ranch of Polled Hereford cattle. In the 1970’s, Geh was a member of Barrington Volunteer Fire Department, and in the 1990’s the Lion’s Club in Mt. Carroll. Continuing a family legacy of conservation, building, renovating, collecting and preserving buildings, he engaged in land development and management of real estate. His projects included rehabilitation of historic buildings, schoolhouse preservation, the building of Barrington West and the iconic Barn in Barrington.
Surviving him are his wife Terry, his mother Grace Schurecht of Barrington, his three children, Kurt and Diane Schurecht of Chicago, Carrie and Rob Bovender of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Chad Schurecht of Palatine, as well as with two step-children Chris and Nicole Dusek and granddaughters Annika and Ella Bovender. His sisters, Dayanne Reed of Barrington, Schon Schurecht of Sonoma, California, and Tia Schurecht of Wellington, Florida also survive him.
Terry and family invite friends to attend an informal gathering in celebration of Geh’s life, at their Mt. Carroll Farm, Saturday, September 5, 2009, from 2 to 6 in the afternoon, with special memories shared at 4 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lion’s Club of Mt. Carroll.
