Gavin M. Lartz, age 19, of Normal, IL, died tragically in an automobile accident on Friday, October 29, 2021. A memorial visitation, celebrating Gavin’s life will be held at Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, IL, on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 2pm to 4pm. Family and friends are invited to share in Gavin’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Gavin was born April 17, 2002 in McAllister, OK, the son of Christopher Lartz and Amanda Peterson. He attended Normal Community High School, then Youth Build of Bloomington.
Gavin was a bright and multi-talented individual. He composed music, made custom beats, and would even free-style rap. He enjoyed skateboarding and playing basketball, fast cars, gaming, and spending time with his girlfriend and his friends. Gavin was always at his happiest with his friends and girlfriend; laughing, engaging in deep talks, or grabbing a Moe’s burrito bowl, Chinese food, or sushi. He loved making and maintaining social connections.
These types of connections are what makes the loss of Gavin so tragic for so many. He was the type of young man to befriend people no matter their appearance or background; a kind and selfless person who enjoyed making people laugh. Simply put, he was the type to drop what he was doing, to help a friend in need.
Gavin will be dearly missed by his father and stepmother, Chris and Sandi Lartz, of Normal, IL; mother, Amanda Peterson, of Ohio; siblings, Mandie Ferguson, of Oklahoma and Makenzie Sack, of Moline, IL; grandparents, Harry and Joy Pettenger, of Milledgeville, IL, Tina Bardell, of Rockford, IL, Marie Lartz, of Mt. Carroll, IL, and Delores Peterson, of Ohio; girlfriend, Kierra; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Gavin is preceded in death by his brother, Aeron Ferguson and grandfathers, Larry Peterson and Mike Lartz.
