Gary Ray Sander, 72, was born in Savanna, IL on May 9, 1951 to Ray and Dee (Lister) Sander and passed away at his home on October 10, 2023. A celebration of Gary's life will be scheduled for a later date.
He attended Northeast schools and enjoyed basketball, football, and helping on the farm. Gary started trucking after graduating from high school in 1969, a career he enjoyed until his retirement. He made many trips across the nation in those 50+ years, the latter of which he was joined by his wife Vickey and their wiener dogs. When he wasn’t driving a truck, he stayed busy working on or cleaning them.
On January 29, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Vickey Andersen, and they made their home in Andover, IA. Later they were joined by two sons, Kevin and Craig. The family enjoyed trips together in the semi, fishing, and playing catch in the backyard. Gary enjoyed following NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. His competitive spirit also loved taking on anyone in a game of ping pong, pool, or foosball. He also appreciated spending time with his children, grandchildren, and faithful canine companions.
Gary is survived by his wife Vickey; his sons, Kevin (Marcy) of Estherville, IA, and Craig (Corinne) of Camanche, IA; his grandchildren, Izaak and Abbigail and Tristen, Kylee, and Caden; his mother, Dee Sander-Wilson; his sisters, Linda (Don) Klaus of Bluffton, OH and Karen (Al) Heath of Milwaukee, WI; his sister-in-law, Judy (John) Boothby of Miles, IA; his brothers-in-law, Paul (Karla) Andersen of Morrison, IL, Mike (Kathy) Andersen of Preston, IA, and Lonnie (Cindy) Andersen of Rising Sun, MD; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his Father, Ray; his mother-in-law, Lois Anderson-Marshall; his fathers-in-law, Harlan Andersen and Ralph Marshall.
