Gary Lee Mann could often be heard yelling, “Get the net, Get the net!” as his life revolved around fishing on the Mississippi River. At the age of 60, Gary passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 at home near Elizabeth, Illinois.
Gary was born November 10, 1953, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Smith) Mann. He is a graduate of the Lanark High
School, Lanark, Illinois and received Machinist training at Blackhawk College.
Gary’s passion in life was fishing, plain and simple. He enjoyed being outdoors on the water. He was a member of the Midwest Bass Fishers and the Backwater Bass Masters. His love for fishing took him to Arkansas for a few years where he worked for Ranger Boats. Gary was a Machinist for many years, working for Woodward Govenor in Rockford, Illinois where he was a member of the Machinist’s Union. He retired in 2008.
Gary is survived by three sons, Daniel (Dawn Buss) Mann of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Randy Mann of Oregon, Illinois and Lucas Mann of Rockford, Illinois; two grandsons, Dylan and Damon Mann; a sister, Trish (Kevin) Krug of Elizabeth, Illinois; three brothers, Joseph Thulen of Savanna, Illinois, Jason (Vicki) Thulen of Savanna and Jonathon (Jeannie) Thulen of Morrison, Illinois; and his step-father, Jimmy Thulen of Savanna. Gary is preceded in death by both parents.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Pastor David Vidler officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Funeral Home, prior to the service.
