Gary Scott Edwards

Gary Scott Edwards, age 62, of Savanna, IL passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, in Savanna. A celebration of life gathering will be held, Friday, June 28, at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Savanna, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A private interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, in Hanover, IL.

Gary was born February 10, 1962, in Savanna, the son of William and Betty (Chapman) Edwards. He grew up in Mt Carroll IL; later moving to Thomson, IL. He spent much of his childhood joining his father on his milk route, and as it turned out, he would spend most of his life doing just that. He followed in his father’s footsteps driving his own route for decades.

Gary married Kelly Nehrkorn and together they had a daughter, Amber Edwards and a son, Shane Edwards. Family meant the world to him. In his retired years, Gary spent most of his time with his grandchildren; who were essentially his whole world. He loved going out for breakfast and getting ice cream with the grandkids. And we’ll never forget about how much he loved his coffee! He would even drink it in 100 degree weather. He was a kind soul, who loved to talk, and enjoyed sitting outside and watching life around him; especially if it involved the lives that he or his children played a part in creating.

Gary loved camping, fishing, and most importantly he loved a good T-bone steak. He was a kind-hearted man, who would give the shirt off his back if needed. If you called him up and asked him if he wanted to go for a ride, the answer was always a resounding, “yes.” When he wasn’t enjoying time with family or friends, you could likely find him watching an old western, with a Coke or Pepsi in hand.

Gary would eventually be diagnosed with cancer, ending his career, but he always maintained his zest for life, and appreciation of the simple things in life. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Amber (Robert) Mickelson; son, Shane (Destiny) Edwards; grandchildren, Ivory, Gabriella, Braxton Edwards, and Asher Mickelson; brothers, Terry (Penny) Edwards, Rick (Alice Edwards), and Billy Edwards; sisters, Deb Davenport, Nancy (David) Williams, Peggy Shaw, Aunt Barb (Jim) Foley. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty; brother Tom Edwards, Sr.; sister, Joyce Bork; aunt, Beatrice Griffin; uncle Jim Griffin; nephew, Rusty Edwards; and cousin, Jimmy Griffin.
