Gary R. Dittmar

Gary R. Dittmar, age 73, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Derinda Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth.

Gary was born May 21, 1936, in Elizabeth, Illinois, the son of Ward G. and Araminta I. (Reed) Dittmar. He graduated from Elizabeth High School with the Class of 1954. Gary was married to Helen Atz on December 26, 1962, in Hanover, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1999.

Gary worked for Atwood in Stockton, Illinois, for the Elizabeth Township, and retired from the Jo Daviess County Highway Department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth.

Gary is survived by his sister, Beverly Dittmar of Freeport, Illinois; brother, Ward (Susan) Dittmar of German Valley, Illinois; nephew, Ben (Krysta) Dittmar of Normal, Illinois; and one great niece, Paige Dittmar of Normal.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Helen.
