Frank G. Vavpotic Jr.

Frank G. Vavpotic Jr., age 97, of Galena, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at his son & daughter-in-law’s home.  A gravesides committal service will take place at The Church of St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Elizabeth, at 11 am on Monday April 19, 2021. Frank was born January 18, 1924, in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank and Mary (Berus) Vavpotic. He graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep. Soon after graduation, Frank joined the United States Army, proudly and faithfully serving his country in the Pacific theater of WWII, then on the Sandwich Isles and the Panama Canal. In August of 1953, Frank married Josephine Zeljko. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Josephine’s passing in 2018.

Frank worked as a U.S. Post Office manager for 17 years, and was a licensed life insurance agent for 24 years.  He was also a proud member of St. Stephen’s Holy Name Society, in Chicago.  In his free time, Frank was an avid reader; reading a novel per week, and had an affinity for wood working, gardening and tending to his plants, and crossword puzzles.

Frank will be dearly missed by his son, Frank (Kathleen) Vavpotic, of Galena, IL; two granddaughters, Elyse (Scott) Meinert, and Allison (Scott) Bierwirth; three great-grandchildren, and a fourth on the way; and nieces, Nancy, Margie, Bonnie, and Rita. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary; wife, Josephine, and two sisters, Mary and Bertha.
